Marc Hatch, a cleaning company owner from Yorkshire, tricked the internet when he shared an “unfortunate” experience he had had with a client after completing a six-hour day of cleaning. When people finally realized who his client was, they were amused and praised the post for being clever.
Marc Hatch, from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, shared an experience he had with one of his clients on Facebook. The cleaning company owner had the internet tickled with his post.
Marc, who has an array of professional qualifications in cleaning, fitting, and repairing carpets and upholstery, spoke of an “unfortunate incident” he had when one of his clients refused to pay. He detailed the amount of work he had done, which included “cleaning a large corner sofa, three bedroom carpets, and a stone floor.”
The post has garnered 14,000 likes. But the client in question was Mark’s wife, Jasmine, who works as a mental health nurse. She was not surprised by her husband’s tactics; instead, she thought, “It’s just typical Marc.” Jasmine explained that they had an ongoing joke of asking each other for payments for things they had done around the house.
When Marc has the kids, he would often joke by asking for babysitting money, to which his wife would respond something along the lines of, “They’re your kids; you don’t babysit your own kids.” However, the day of the deep clean was slightly different.
The cleaning session took place on one of his off days. The dad started the morning strong by dropping the kids off at school, then took their dog on a walk, and spent the rest of his day spring-cleaning his house. Marc said the job took him six hours and would have cost his wife $900, so he made sure to remind her how much of a bargain she got.
The handy husband also explained that he cleaned the couch regularly, but a deep clean like this one only came every six months. Usually, he would joke around and ask his wife for payment in person, but this time, he decided to send her a message instead and post the interaction on Facebook.
Jasmine was sitting next to him when he popped her the message. She immediately started laughing, glanced over, and replied with a witty quip of her own. In the screenshot Marc shared, his wife responded, “Get a grip. We’re married with three kids.”
Jasmine and Marc were surprised at how much traction the post got. The father of three said it had been a big topic of discussion in the house. The couple laughed and made jokes about their newfound fame. “I’ve gone viral; I don’t have to be a nurse anymore; I can just sit here and live off the fame,” said Jasmine.
The business owner had the internet just as amused as his better half. People admitted it took them longer than expected to realize the client was Marc’s wife. But commenters thought it was brilliant and funny.
Marc admitted that the attention he got from the post was also great for marketing his company. The business owner added that he loved making people laugh, and to know that he has put a smile on someone’s face made him really happy.
While Marc might be garnering thousands of likes on Facebook, Jasmine emphasized that he will not get his $900 service fee, but she is patiently waiting to pull a trick on him, too.
